Le Bistrot Pierre, Starbucks, Patisserie Valerie and Seasalt have all agreed leases on the new city centre redevelopment project.

They join the likes of Pizza Express, Zizzi and Handmade Burger Company in agreeing to take up units within Friarsgate.

A seven screen cinema, run by The Light Cinema, will also be on the site.

Cllr Mike Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said: “We’re delighted by today’s announcement.

“It’s great news that even more top named brands are signing up to the Friarsgate scheme and want to bring their businesses to Lichfield.

“We’re enjoying watching the development take shape, and when built, we are confident it will drive more footfall to our businesses, create more jobs for local people, and really help to boost the reputation of the Lichfield as a great place to shop, drink, visit and enjoy.”

In total, Friarsgate is expected to bring between eight and ten food and drink establishments and approximately 20 shops, with 82 apartments and 11 townhouses to the city centre.

The scheme is expected to create 660 new jobs and increase the city’s shopping turnover from £55million to £107million by 2022.

Richard Upton, Deputy CEO of developer U+I which is behind the Friarsgate scheme, said: “Seasalt, Le Bistrot Pierre, Patisserie Valerie and Starbucks are all great draws for visitors and I’m delighted to confirm we are close to signing up other big name high street brands shortly.

“It is an exciting time for Lichfield, and I am confident that our investment in Lichfield will generate new jobs and growth for the area, which has always been a key objective for the Friarsgate development.”
