Brits' dream homes would feature swimming pools, walk-in wardrobes, en suite bathrooms and much more.

Indoor swimming pools top the list of features that Brits most want in their home, while en suite bathrooms are also popular.

Research from Ocean Finance reveals that 36% of homeowners, or over 18 million people, crave an indoor swimming pool which they can call their own.

But having the freedom to go for a morning swim or an evening dip doesn’t appeal to everyone, with other luxuries like an en suite bathroom (33%) or a summer house/garden room/conservatory (32%) high on people’s wish lists.

A walk-in wardrobe (27%), a bigger garden (25%) and a jacuzzi or hot tub (23%) are also popular "dream home" features. A gym (21%), an open fire or log burner (18%), a cinema room (17%) and an office or study (17%) complete the top 10.

Edward Lucas, from the Strutt & Parker Country House Department, agrees with these results; "We often speak to our clients about their dream tick list and these things always feature highly. Whilst we always try to ensure that they are realistic about having them all, we also discuss how much value you can add by building them yourselves. It is surprising though how many people have very modest aspirations - adding an en suite to a master bedroom or installing a garden shed, for example, can often be quite achievable."

In addition to a shed (5%), some of the more achievable desirable features include a sit-on mower (4%) and a garden to grow food (15%).

The research also highlights a difference of opinion among couples when it comes to "dream home" features.

For instance, some 39% of women want an en suite bathroom compared to only 25% of men, while 37% of women want a walk-in wardrobe compared to just 12% of men.
