A handsome and substantial detached property with exceptional panoramic views
The property is dressed in limestone from the quarry in Plymstock and was built in approximately 1886. Its finely dressed stone elevations are an attractive and impressive feature of this fine country home with period brick detailing and sandstone mullions. Delightful views over surrounding countryside are provided from the propertys impressive elevated position in the centre of its own land. Within the property are an annexe and large self-contained apartment providing home and income potential. These could easily be incorporated into the main house.
The house has been the subject of a program of extensive upgrading and enhancement in recent times. Improvements that have already been undertaken include the installation of an efficient underfloor heating system run from thermo-dynamic panels, sola photovoltaic panels on the roof, double glazed windows to most openings and pumped hot water system. High quality fittings have been used in bath/shower rooms, whilst some further works are required. Cleeve House provides comfortable and well proportioned family accommodation in an outstanding rural location. Alternatively, the house can be used for letting or as a country hotel or for Bed & Breakfast, subject to the necessary consents.
This property has 11.37 acres of land.
Outside
The long and attractive carriage driveway passes over a stone bridge and through the established and well stocked gardens. There are formal lawns, several entertaining areas and a level croquet lawn.
Situation
Cleeve House is set on the outskirts of the town of Ivybridge. The town is a vibrant, friendly community in the beautiful South Hams, nestling on the southern edge of Dartmoor.
The town centre is little more than half a mile away from Cleeve House and there can be found a comprehensive range of shops and other businesses. The newly developed Watermark Centre is a flagship cultural and business centre in the heart of Ivybridge. It is home to a cinema and theatre space, conference and banqueting facilities with bar, new state-of-the-art library, IT suite, community information resources, coffee shop plus business units for rent and an on-site business support service. The town has several primary schools and a very well respected Community College. Within the town are numerous clubs and societies catering for a wide variety of interests and opportunities to participate in many sports including football, rugby, cricket and tennis. The South Devon Leisure Centre provides indoor and outdoor swimming pools, squash courts and gymnasium. The town lies alongside the A38 Devon Expressway which provides quick access to Plymouth less than 10 miles away and to Exeter and the M5 about 30 miles distant.
Directions
From the A38 take the Ivybridge exit and at the terminating T-junction turn left. Pass the Ivybridge Tennis Centre on your right and after approximately 200 yards turn right onto the driveway marked Cleeve. Continue carefully along the driveway, bearing left where signed for Cleeve. This will lead to the main house and the right hand section of the upper drive.
