An immaculate 2 bedroom apartment within a converted manor house
The property Park House has a rich history and was originally owned by the Symington family who manufactured whalebone corsets within the town. During the 2nd World War it became an Officers' Mess for the 456th Parachute Artillery Battalion and the US 82nd Airborne Division prior to their assault on Normandy and Holland. After the war it reverted to Council Offices before being converted for residential use in 1986. There are 21 apartments in all with just 8 being in the main house.
The front entrance to Park House opens onto beautiful galleried communal entrance hall with wood panelling. Apartment 8 is located in the far left hand corner of this hall and its front door opens onto a dining/reception room. This room, in common with the whole apartment, has lovely high ceilings and has recently been redecorated by a Farrow and Ball specialist designer with the brief to seamlessly match colours throughout the apartment. The dining room has three sash windows and all of these and, indeed, those throughout the apartment, have recently been renovated and fitted with heritage double glazing. The dining room leads through to a hall with stairs rising to the left and the kitchen ahead. To the right is a door leading to the south-east facing patio garden. The kitchen has a double bank of units with a range cooker, a Belfast sink and granite effect work surfaces.
The stairs rise to a mezzanine level where there is a beautifully fitted family bathroom with a roll top bath, a walk in shower and a ceramic tiled floor. On the first floor, and to the left, is the principal bedroom which has three sash windows and an en suite shower room. Directly ahead is the drawing room which originally formed the stairwell of the main house. This has a balconied outer area and steps lead down to the central seating area. Suspended above, and framing the room, is an exquisite glass cupola with an intricate chandelier suspended beneath.
Stairs then rise to the second floor bedroom which has views over Market Harborough. On this last flight of stairs there is a ladder providing access to copious boarded loft space. This space is not included in the title but can only be accessed from Apartment 8.
Outside The apartment has a private, south-east facing courtyard garden which, being adjacent to the kitchen and dining room and accessible from the hall, is perfect for entertaining. There is another terrace to the north, accessed externally only, but which the window above the kitchen sink overlooks. There is a dedicated parking area to the front of the property as well as a single garage.
Location Park House sits in a ‘tucked away’, but elevated, position to the north of the town centre. The town has a wide range of shops and amenities all of which are within striking distance. Local schooling, both state and public school is excellent and the train service reaches London St Pancras International in around an hour.
Directions From the Strutt and Parker office, head north on the Leicester Road (B6047). Immediately after passing Brook House College, turn right into Park Drive. Turn left and follow Park Drive around and Park House can be found at the end of the road on the right hand side.
