A charming period cottage set within a private lane with an open outlook over fields
With its attractive façade, Apple Tree Cottage is a three-storey home of immense character, with light, airy and versatile accommodation, stylishly designed interiors and a relaxed environment perfectly suited to modern lifestyles. Appealing features include sash windows, panelled shutters, stained glass and rustic doors, and flagstone flooring.
The welcoming reception hall opens into a generous drawing room which offers the warming ambience of a log burning stove. The adjacent kitchen/dining room is a sociable setting filled with natural light courtesy of its double aspect and the direct link into a bright conservatory which offers a spot in which to enjoy the garden throughout the seasons.
Fitted with contemporary cabinetry, integrated appliances and stone-work surfaces, the kitchen has at its heart an Aga stove which is complemented by a classic Belfast sink. Ancillary space is provided by a beautiful, recently refurbished deVOL utility room which also has the advantage of a stable door to the garden. For home-workers, the study provides a quiet refuge with an outlook, and access to, the outside via French doors.
Three of the four bedrooms are situated on the first floor, along with a well-appointed family bathroom with bath tub and separate shower cubicle. The principal bedroom benefits from a dressing room with fitted wardrobe storage and a stylish en suite bathroom which showcases a free-standing roll-top tub with ‘ball and claw’ feet. The second floor bedroom is illuminated by skylight windows and offers a sanctuary at the top of the home as well as additional storage space.
Outside
The property is approached via a gravelled driveway which provides parking and leads to the detached garage. Trimmed low level hedging borders the drive and encircles planting pockets containing specimen trees. A paved walkway leads through an ornate archway to a pretty parterre style garden with a lawned design enclosed by mature shrubs and hedging. To the rear, a paved terrace adjoining the cottage offers opportunities for outdoor dining and relaxation whilst taking advantage of the south easterly aspect. Attractively planted beds edge the terrace with an area laid to lawn beyond, whilst boundaries of evergreen hedging ensure a secluded outdoor haven.
Situation
Apple Tree Cottage is situated in a semi-rural setting just to the west of Winkfield, which is well placed for transport networks and local amenities. There are regular train services to London Waterloo from Ascot, Martins Heron and Bracknell stations, whilst high-speed Crossrail provides access to London from Maidenhead. For road-users, junctions joining the M4 and M3 are within easy reach providing access to Heathrow Airport, Central London, the West Country and the M25.
Sporting and recreational facilities in the area are excellent and include golf at the world famous Wentworth and Sunningdale, whilst horse-racing enthusiasts are catered for at Windsor and Ascot, and for polo there are clubs at Coworth Park, The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club and Guards Polo Club.
There is excellent schooling in the area, in both the private and state sectors, including the highly regarded Lambrook School, which is situated less than a mile from the property.
